Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I have had to attend parties for the last five days. On Wednesday I went to a business associates Christmas open house at her office. Thursday it was girl’s night out with a group of girlfriends one of them is visiting from Mexico.  Larry and I had a company party to attend on Friday. Then on Saturday our daughter and her husband had the couple from Mexico and mutual friends over for dinner.  Tom cooked prime rib. Yum!!! A fun time was had by all. We talked, laughed and ate all night long. After this weekend I know we must have put on an extra five pounds or more. I don’t dare get on the scale.

I don’t know about you but I am always looking for something different to give when we have been invited to a dinner party. Typically people will bring flowers or a bottle of wine. I know flowers are a beautiful gift to give but they are not a good gift to bring when the hostess is cooking dinner. She then has to drop everything to find a vase to put them in.

I found something that was the hit of the party. It is a Wine Bottle Candelabra. I just brought an empty wine bottle for the hostess to put the candelabra in and light the candles. One little tip make sure the Candelabra fits the bottle’s opening before you bring it. Denise ended using it as the center piece of her table. (I brought it to her earlier in the day.) It was a hit. Everyone wanted to know where I got it, including our 18 year old grand-daughter who wanted to buy one for her boyfriend’s parents for Christmas. They are wine connoisseurs, so that would be a perfect gift for them.

The Candelabra makes for a really nice and unusual gift. Guys this is a great stocking stuffer to give your wife with a note saying, “For those romantic evenings together.” You can buy it at amazon.com.

I bought additional ones for gifts and one for myself. I plan on using it when we have our next quite romantic dinner at home. As I mentioned we had a little trouble finding an opening that would fit the candelabra. We finally found one we had purchased and drank that had a screw top (would you believe it was an expensive bottle of wine too!)

Another great gift that is very similar to the Wine Bottle Candelabra is wine cork candles. I have put five empty wine bottles on my dining table. It makes for a beautiful and romantic dinner party. And it is an impressive and inexpensive way to decorate the table.

Do you have a picture you took while on your romantic weekend away? Would you like to hang it on the wall but you don’t want to have it in a small picture frame? Or maybe you would like to make a Christmas ornament? On Dec 3rd, 2010 I was watching the Nate Berkus Show and he had a photographer, MeRa Koh and they talked about some different ways you can use your photos.

Nate Berkus Show – Turn Your Portraits into Art

They talked about two companies you can use that I thought you might be interested in looking into:

CanvasRox

Shutterfly

There are so many options and new ways you can display your pictures. Hang that special photo of where you went on the wall in your home. Every time you look at the photo it will bring back the memories and feelings of the special weekend you took together. You will always be reminded of why you are saving your $5 a week and it will keep you committed.

I just found the cutest website selling personalized stamped sterling silver jewelry. You can choose from one of their designs or customize your own piece. They have a huge choice of jewelry designs, disc, key rings, photo charms, mother’s bracelets and saying necklaces.

I started to think about all the ways you could customize a piece. “I love you, anniversary date or your special nicknames for each other. There is a heart necklace with the words stamped “Marry Me.” Wouldn’t it be a great way to propose? There is one for “Mommy to be”. What a wonderful way to celebrate and let the world know about your new little bundle of joy in the making!

This is a great place to go for birthdays, anniversary or just because gifts. Also, you can order an email gift certificate if you need to get a gift right away.

Check out “Heart On Your Wrist” website and surprise your sweetheart with something special no one else has.

Always remember buyer beware. Check out reviews on the web to make sure this is a company you want to buy from.

It’s Christmas Eve the gifts are wrapped, there will be a party to attend or you are having it at your home. Some of you will be attending midnight mass. What ever your traditions are enjoy your time together with special family and/or friends. See the pleasure in what ever you do the night before Christ was born.

I used to have Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day dinner at my house. When our daughter got married she came to me and asked if we would be upset if her and husband went to his parents house on Christmas Eve and then they would spend Christmas Day with us. We told her we totally understood her family had gotten bigger and she should enjoy Christmas Eve with her in-laws. We would see her on Christmas Day!

Once we realized we wouldn’t have to worry about having everyone over for Christmas Eve we decided to make our own tradition. My husband and I get dressed up for Christmas Eve and go out to a special place for dinner, just the two of us. Sometimes we will travel as far away as an hour from our home. We have been to some wonderful places and have eaten great food. These are places that are too expensive for us to go to on a regular basis.

We have some great memories of this special time together. Like the time we had dinner in Morro Bay overlooking the bay. A small boat floated by the restaurant with Santa sitting on a motorcycle and he did a wheelie in front of the restaurant. Everyone was standing by the window clapping and laughing. It was magical. Another place was a quaint restaurant in Los Olivos where they had a guy playing Christmas music on the piano. One year we went to a Japanese restaurant and ate at the teppan grill and watched the chef do his magic with the food he prepared for us.

Later that evening when we get home my husband always knows I have prepared a special surprise for him. Since there aren’t any children at home we will have a beautiful leisurely evening in front of the fireplace with my Christmas lights for him.

When your normal traditions change because children have grown and are married, find a new tradition. Make it unique for the two of you and do something wild and zany like the Christmas lights I talked about last Friday, Dec 18, 2009.

Remember you marriage should be as magical as your Christmas is!

I promised I would share my “25 Reasons Why I Love You” list that I plan on giving to my husband this Christmas. I could go on and on but I won’t bore you with giving you more than the 25 reasons. I will probably change out a few of these to more private ways I love him. I just don’t feel it would be appropriate to share. These are private.

1. The way you laugh when you are teasing me.
2. Before you left for work today you pulled the down comforter on me and told me to stay in bed and sleep. You knew I had gotten up at 3AM and didn’t go back to bed until 5 AM because I couldn’t sleep. You wanted me to rest.
3. You don’t have a jealous bone in your body.
4. You put gas in my car so I don’t have too. (I really don’t know how to gas my own car)
5. The way your brown eyes sparkle when you know you are going to surprise me and that is hard to do.
6. You stood beside me and took care of me when I had cancer.
7. You love me just the way I am.
8. You put up with me when I am grouchy.
9. The way you kiss me when we are laughing.
10. The way you hug me.
11. The way you hold my hand when we are walking on the beach.
12. Sitting and having a cup of coffee quietly together.
13. The way you laugh and play with the grandkids.
14. You can fix a delicious dinner for us when I am too busy to.
15. You surprised me with my favorite dark chocolate.
16. You make sure my car is in perfect working order.
17. The way you always fall asleep on the couch and snore. (Yes, honey you do snore.)
18. In the middle of the night if we both wake up you pull me close to you and tell me you love me and then we go right back to sleep.
19. You always make me laugh even when I am mad at you.
20. You are my rock.
21. The way you laugh when you watch “My Name is Earl” TV series.
22. The way you help around the house to make it look nice.
23. The way you put your arms around me.
24. The way you would rather be with me than anyone else.
25. The way you try to do the right things.

So make your “25 Reasons Why I Love You” appropriate for you and your husband only. Enjoy the love you have for them and let them know how much you appreciate their love.

Don’t forget to pick up the items I told you to get last week. I will tell you what you will be doing with all these items tomorrow, Friday, December 18, 2009.

• Christmas stationary (Love Letter or 25 Reasons Why I Love You)
• 1 String of battery operated Christmas lights (Don’t forget the batteries)
• 1 Small blank Christmas card
• Small Christmas ribbon that will allow you to attach and tie something
• Something sexy to wear

Need to give that special someone of yours a gift and you don’t have a clue on what to give? Don’t sweat it! Your response is “What are you talking about! My husband/wife is one of the hardest persons to give a gift to. They have everything and on top of that they never tell me what they want. I am haunted with worry and indecision on finding that perfect gift.”
Like you I always have a hard time finding the right gift for my husband. He always tells me he doesn’t need anything and why don’t I go out and buy something for myself instead. Now that is very sweet and thoughtful but that is not what I want to do. Gifts are about the act of giving not accepting. A few weeks ago I talked about my husband’s birthday and that I gave the gift of myself. Which is very romantic, but like you when I have the money I want to give something special to the one I love?
There is a great website that can help you do that. They have wonderful gifts and the presentation is beautiful. They send it in a stunning signature red gift box with a gorgeous big ivory grosgrain bow tied around the box. It reminds me of the way Tiffany wraps their gifts. Your spouse will be very impressed with not only the gift but how it is wrapped. Your personal gift message is printed on a gift card and tucked inside a red envelope.
The name of the company I am referring to is RedEnvelope. Their tag line is: the place for unique and personalized gifts. The website is very well laid out and easy to maneuver around. They have gifts for everyone. Check out their website: www.redenvelope.com. The name RedEnvelope comes from a firmly held belief in Asian cultures that the color red is an auspicious symbol of happiness. Gifts are often presented in a simple red envelope – a timeless tradition that carries with it well wishes of prosperity, good fortune, appreciation and love. What a nice Asian tradition!
I was lucky enough to receive a gift from RedEnvelope one year from our daughter and son-in-law. I still have the box and ribbon and every time I open the box to use the item they gave me I feel very special and loved. So give a gift in the Asian tradition and send it with lots of love and good fortune.
