Start the New Year right with the thought of having fun together…..

Get a piece of paper and hand one to your sweetheart. Write down a few things you would like to do next year together that seems feasible for you to attain.

Then decide which one interest both of you. Determine how you are going to make it happen. Choose the month you will do it in and how much money you both need to put away to make it happen by that date. Open a saving account at your local bank and make arrangements to have a payroll deduction in the amount that needs to be taken out of each person’s paycheck every payday and before you know it the money needed for a very unique and memorable experience together will be saved!

Hang a picture of this special experience with the date you plan on doing it in your bedroom to remind both of you why you are saving your money. You could add a post-it-note to it with the number of weeks before it all happens and change it every week.

Every time you both look at it you will be reminded of a very special New Years Day when you made your decision.

Once the decision has been made have a glass of champagne, wine or sparkling cider at the stroke of mid-night and toast each other to the fun you will have together in 2011 and seal it with a kiss!

On Tuesday I told you a little about our Christmas Day but what I didn’t mention is my husband’s brother sadly passed away a week before Christmas. So it was somewhat bittersweet. He is with the Lord now and no longer suffering. He will be missed very much by family and friends.

Today is his funeral. Since the family still has small children he didn’t want them to have it just before Christmas so they waited to do it in the middle of this week.

Instead of flowers the family has decided to make a donation to the American Cancer Society. I went on-line last night and made a donation. It was so easy to do.

This is a reminder to us all to tell our love ones we love them and how they are an important part of our lives.

Hope you had a Very Merry Christmas! We had a wonderfully full day with family. Our traditional Christmas breakfast was at our daughter’s home in the morning. Opening presents and eating a wonderful egg soufflé made by Great-grandma. I made my Bubble Coffee Cake (see my blog on Dec 22, Bake Something Good Together). Denise’s husband Tom made the fried potatoes. It was all delicious, then later in the day on to our house for Christmas dinner.

With Christmas done and the New Year only a few days ahead of us I thought I would have you watch a video that was on the Today Show yesterday with money expert and author, David Bach and psychiatrist, Gail Saltz. They talked about how some couples keep their spending a secret. Since money is one of the biggest reasons for couples to divorce I thought you would like to see their recommendations on how to resolve this issue.

Watch the video together and discuss how maybe you can start out the New Year better committed to being financially responsible together.

American Couples have a Dirty Little Secret

Look over your finances and determine how much you can both afford to give each other what is considered discretionary money per pay period. Then if your budget allows dole out $10, $20, $40 or more every payday to each other and consider that money yours to spend as you please or save. No questions asked on where you are spending your money. We all deserve to have the freedom to have some discretionary money and spend it as we please. 

When you have a stable financial history together it helps you to have a stable and loving marriage.

Looking for something that is easy to serve on Christmas morning? And you want it to look like it took hours to make but it only took a few minutes to put together. Then you will want to make this coffee cake.

Bubble Coffee Cake

1 27 oz package frozen dough rolls

1 3.5 oz package butterscotch pudding (not instant)

¾  cup brown sugar

¼  cup sugar

½ cup chopped walnuts

½  cup melted butter

Spray 10” solid tube or Bundt pan with Pam. Place rolls in pan covering bottom.

Combine the next 4 ingredients and pour evenly over rolls and then pour melted butter over.

Cover with a tent of aluminum foil sprayed with Pam; let set overnight.

Preheat oven to 350°

Bake 30 minutes; turn onto a plate to serve. Serves 12

This recipe is so easy you can have the kids help you and your husband make this. It will become your family favorite. Enjoy!

On Dec 2, 2010, I wrote about the things you would need for a very Romantic Christmas gift you can give to your sweetheart. Well today is the big reveal. You will notice there are a lot of items marked (Optional). You really don’t need them but it could add to your fun.

Champagne or Sparkling Cider

As I said you don’t really need most of these items but it does add to the fun.

Ladies:

Put on your favorite lingerie (or maybe nothing at all), light the candles and turn on the Christmas music. If you purchased the Angel Wings Necklace and/or the Angel Wings put that on and spray on Victoria Secret’s Dream Angel Heavenly or your favorite scent. Have the Champagne or Sparkling Cider poured. Wrap a ribbon around your neck with the card attached to the ribbon and your handwritten note inside saying:

“Merry Christmas sweetheart I’d like to be the angel on top of your tree!”

Guys:

Maybe in the morning you could wrap the Angel Wings and/or the Angel Wings Necklace with the note attached to the gift. If you don’t have either that’s OK, write a little note inside your Christmas card saying:

“Merry Christmas sweetheart I’d like for you to be the angel on top of my tree!”

In the evening put on your Christmas boxers shorts, light the candles, turn on the Christmas music and pour the Champagne or Sparkling Cider and invite your sweetheart to join you in a very memorable and romantic Christmas.

If you did purchase the Angel Wings Necklace for yourself or your sweetheart you may want to consider this necklace as your secret code when you want to make love. Guys you could lay it out in the morning or put it on your lady before you go out for the evening. Or ladies put on your special angel wings necklace. No one will be the wiser but you and your sweetheart. If you wear it in the morning or when you go out can you imagine the anticipation it could create!
