Did you ever think that maybe a surprise for your sweetheart doesn’t have to be some big extravagant gift or party? Maybe a little something for them that makes their life easier could be just as much appreciated? This weekend decide to do something they normally do.

While they are in the middle of completing a task or just resting let them know you need to run out and do an errand. Grab the keys to their car and surprise them by going to get their car wash and getting an oil change.

Put a post-it note in the car saying:

“Just because I love you and everything you do for me!”

There is nothing nicer than getting into a clean care knowing their sweetheart took care of it for them.

What have you done to surprise your spouse? How did they respond to the surprise?

Want to dine, shop, travel and be able to save? There is a book that can help you do just that. Larry & I will look over this book before we decide to go out to eat or maybe travel to a new destination. There are premium 50% off and 2 for 1 discount coupons found in the book. What is the name and were can you pick up this book?

Entertainment

Plus when you purchase a book you get access to hundreds of additional local printable coupons and online shopping discounts. Also, this is a good book to purchase when you are going on vacation. One year we purchased a book when we went to Portland, OR. We saved on our food and hotel room.  Every little bit helps and the Entertainment Book is one way to have an enjoyable time and save.

FYI, we don’t use every single coupon available either because the place has gotten horrible reviews or we know first hand we wouldn’t go there but there are enough great places you should get your money back and then some. I always say buyer beware, research before you decide to try a place, whether it is a hotel or restaurant. I want you to have an enjoyable evening together.

Are you looking for a way to warm up with your sweetheart because the weather is so cold outside? After the kids are asleep make a cup of hot chocolate for both of you. Turn off the TV and sit in front of the fireplace or a grouping of candles. Talk about how your day went while you are heating up your feet and your bodies sipping a cup of hot chocolate together.

Warm Your Bodies Hot Chocolate

6 tablespoons instant hot chocolate mix
2 Cups milk
2 teaspoons chocolate syrup
2 ounce peppermint schnapps (optional)
Whipped Cream
Mini Chocolate Chips

Slowly heat the milk in a saucepan.  Put 3 tablespoons of instant hot chocolate and 1 teaspoon chocolate syrup in each cup and pour warm milk over the top, then add 1 oz of peppermint schnapps and stir. Top with whipped cream and mini chocolate chips.

What better way to feel all warm and cozy with each other than sipping a good cup of hot chocolate while sitting in front of a fireplace or a grouping of candles.

Remember what it felt like when you were dating your sweetheart? Want to bring that feeling back again. Then make it a point to do some of the things you used enjoy with your spouse before you were married. Another thing you could do is something you normally don’t do together at all.

One of the more inexpensive ideas is to go out and listen to live music. Many restaurants, small pubs, coffee houses, wineries and bookstores will offer live music for free. Enjoy a drink and if they offer appetizers or desert order something. The cost will be minimal. Go on line and or read the newspaper to find out where you can go and have an enjoyable evening together.

Our daughter and her husband are staying at the Hyatt Regency in Lake Tahoe this week and last night at the hotel restaurant they had live music in the bar. The drinks and appetizers were $5 each. They had a wonderful evening overlooking Lake Tahoe in front of a roaring fire listening to good music and nibbling on good food.

Take the time to make a date with your sweetheart and have a fun evening together.

Are you finding it hard to reconnect? The holidays are a stressful time. Working, taking care of the kids, buying presents and preparing for the big holiday can take time away from your normal routine. There have been no us time let alone no me time. You have forgotten how to reconnect with each other!

Here are some unexpected ways to keep those sparks flying:

Smile – Your sweetheart will feel appreciated and they will be more attentive to you.

Change things – Have dinner in front of the fireplace or in the bedroom. When you have a new experience together you will have good feelings toward each other.

Sit next to each other – This helps you to feel closer together

Touch each other – It is an unspoken sign you are both a part of a loving unit

Surprise Kiss – There is nothing nicer than to surprise your sweetheart with a kiss. You are sending a message that you care and love them.

Laughter – Laughter is another great way to connect with each other. It sends out warm loving feelings of connection.

All of the little things you do not only help to reconnect you together but you are showing an example of how to have a loving marriage to your children. When you take care of your relationship you immediately will feel better and closer to the one you love.

Our son-in-law, Tom, read this article from the New York Times and emailed it to me because he thought I would like to incorporate it into an article for you. It is a very interesting article about how marriages work differently than they did years ago and why.  The article really resonated with me and I thought you would enjoy reading it too. There is a quiz couples can take to find out how much knowing your spouse has made you a better person.

Take the time to read the article in the New York Times; you might be surprised by what it has to say.

SUSTAINABLE LOVE: The Happy Marriage Is the Me Marriage

So what did you think? Did you agree or disagree with what was written?

Have you made your New Years Resolutions for your marriage yet? What! You never thought you needed to make a New Years Resolution concerning your marriage? Most people will make a list to lose weight, pay off their debt or take a special vacation with the family but never consider what they can do this year that could improve their relationship with your spouse?

Here are a few suggestions to help you:

1. Make love at least once a week or more

2. Save your $5 a week (if you haven’t been doing it)

3. Flirt by e-mail

4. Get a hobby together

5. Make a weekly date

6. Volunteer together

7. Hug and kiss each other before you leave in the morning

8. Read a book together

9. Write a short love letter once a month on a specific date

10. Exercise together

11. Take a class together

12. Play a board game together once a week

13. De-clutter a room (We are going to clean out the garage this year)

14. See a movie once a month together (Take turns choosing it)

15. Start planning your vegetable garden and plant it together when the weather is good.

Most of these ideas only cost you your time and/or they are very inexpensive. Or you might come up with your own ideas you would both like to do together. Choose something that makes your marriage fun; then make a pack to try and keep this resolution for the whole year.

Making a New Years Resolution for your marriage and sticking to it will give your relationship an extra boost! Now what marriage doesn’t need that?
