Life is so busy with all of our commitments, schedules and meetings it is easy to forget your marriage and commitment to it. It is so simple to get sucked up into our daily lives forgetting your marriage is crying out for attention too.

To make sure you are not forgetting to pay attention to each other why not make a “Date Packet.” All you need is a small cloth pouch, (you can get at any craft store or card shop) small sheets of paper or cards you can write on and fold that will fit into your special pouch.

Sit down with your sweetheart and talk about some of the things you would like to do together. The cards don’t have to have the exact same interest but you each need to be willing to do it on a date night. For example, I like to see romantic movies, my husband likes to watch the races on TV and we both like to cook and going to bookstores.

Write down what you want to do on each card and put it in the pouch. Specify a specific day once a month and take turns choosing one item from your special pouch and then go on a date.  For example, this month my husband picked “Go to a Bookstore.”  That night we will go to a bookstore and look at the books and magazines. Once we have finished browsing we will have a cup of coffee and a split a snack. Maybe even read the book or magazine we purchased while there. Next month we add a new list of things we want to do and then I get to pull from our “Date Packet.”

There are three things you will have created for your relationship:

• Anticipation
• Surprise
• Commitment to each other

You may notice our wish list may be similar to what we normally do but you can put things you don’t normally do to. If there is a new exhibit at the museum and you want to see it. Write it down. Most importantly you are creating an element of surprise and newness’ even with the most mundane things.
