What do you do when your sweetheart has been diagnosed with Leukemia? That is exactly what happened to Rhonda and her husband, Randy. One day Randy thought he was fine, the next day the whole family’s life has been turned upside down. On January 24th, Randy was diagnosed with AML Leukemia (Acute Myleoid). Rhonda says they find their strength with a strong faith and a lot of hope.
Rhonda & Randy have been together for 26 years and married for 10 years and are very much in love. Like couples who have been together for a long time they have been through the test of time and the sparkle in their eyes for each other is still there.
They have a typical active 15 year old daughter who will turn 16 in May and is looking forward to getting her driver’s license. Randy is a host in the evening at the famous steak house, Jockos, in Nipomo, CA and is a local handyman, while Rhonda works as an Escrow Officer for one of the major title companies in the area. They like to go fishing and golfing together as a family.
Since January 24th, Randy has been driving down to UCLA to get Chemotherapy, testing and health updates. Rhonda has been going to UCLA with Roxy for his treatment and their daughter has been staying with family and friends so she can continue school and have somewhat of a normal teenage life.
Recently, Rhonda sent an email to everyone with an update on Randy’s health. The oncologist told them that out of 20 cancer cells 18 are chromosome 8 and 2 are chromosome 9. Chromosome 9 cannot be killed with chemo, so Randy needs a bone marrow transplant. The good news is, if they find a match and the transplant is successful, it is also a cure.
They were told that his sister was not a match so they are starting to search the National Bone Marrow Registry. Anyone can become a donor by going to www.marrow.org.
There are over 20 million people worldwide in the registry, but he has to have a perfect match. For the love of her man, Rhonda is asking that anyone interested in joining the registry would be greatly appreciated.
Please go to www.marrow.org if you want to help Rhonda keep the sparks flying with her man for years to come.
