Hope you enjoyed reading about Cathy’s New Year Resolution for her and her husband on Wednesday and plan on doing the same thing with your sweetheart. She also shared something else that she and her husband Alex did for their anniversary and she was kind enough to let me pass it on to you.

Somehow Cathy and I got on the conversation of anniversaries and that their 25th was coming up this year. She told me that when they got married they had wanted a simple wedding just the 2 of them and no one else. They drove up to Lake Tahoe and got married at a small intimate chapel there. Cathy said it was very romantic.

On their 20th anniversary they decided they wanted to renew their vows but keep it intimate and simple like their wedding. So they scouted around the Central Coast and finally decided where they were going to say their vows.

On their anniversary they both got dressed up and went to Waller Park where there is a beautiful gazebo overlooking a grassy knoll area. They stood in the middle of the gazebo facing each other while holding hands and said their vows along with their thoughts about why they love the other so much. It was short, very private and romantic. After they went to the beautiful and romantic Santa Maria Inn and had a lovely lunch.

This year they plan on looking around for a different place for their 25th wedding anniversary and they still plan on keeping it intimate and private.

What Cathy and Alex have done is found a way to let each other know how much they love each other and if they had it all over to do again they would still marry each other. It wasn’t expensive, just a beautiful way to profess their love without the world having to hear about it. Isn’t that what love is about. You don’t have to prove it to everyone else.

This romantic gesture is too good not to do and it would be a nice tradition to do every year on your anniversary. If you have children you could even include them in your private ceremony. This is great way to teach them about love and marriage and the importance of staying together through the good times and the bad times.

So this year make plans to renew your vows on your anniversary at a special place you have both chosen, just the 2 of you professing your love for each other.

Happy New Year! Hope you started the New Year off right with my romantic idea for New Year’s Eve. I have another great idea to start 2013 of right and I got it talking to a co-worker last week. She wanted to keep her marriage feeling new and exciting.

Cathy was telling me the only New Year Resolution she and her husband were making this year was once a month they would do something they have never done before with each other. What a great idea! This is something we can all strive to do with our sweetheart the whole year long.

Cathy mentioned she was telling another friend about their New Year Resolution and they suggested they could go sky diving! She said absolutely there was no way she was doing that. She wanted something a little tamer and less expensive.

Here are some suggestions you might want to consider doing with your husband:

• Try a new restaurant in town
• See a foreign film
• Learn to dance the tango
• Take a cooking class
• Go hiking in a new area
• Go to an expensive hotel nearby that you have never been to and have cocktails and appetizers
• Learn to play golf
• Cook something you have never made together

Choose the same weekend every month that you will try something new together and stick to it as much as you can.

Do something you have never done with your sweetheart once a month and you will make your relationship feel new and exciting just like Cathy and her husband will be doing all year long!
